Note: I am a full-time blogger and earning from Adsense for past 7 years. I have worked on various blogs and did several experiments. I am writing this post based on my personal experience and tips I got from Google Adsense experts whom I met in few Adsense conferences.

Ways to Increase Adsense CPC

1. Choose Higher Paying Niche:

Choosing a right niche for your blog is really very important. CPC directly depends on the topic of your blog you are writing about. These are some high paying niches that can give you a big return.

  • Web design, WordPress, Themes, and Templates
  • Blogs on Internet Domains Like Yahoo, GoDaddy, Hostgator etc. It pays highest CPC.
  • Tech Gadgets like Apple, Android, Blackberry products (In India, this category now offers much low CPC)
  • Google Products and services
  • Banking
  • Finance
  • Automobile
  • Clothing and fashion

If you are thinking to start a new blog, you must consider the high paying Adsense category. Tech and gadget is now offering very low CPC. If you own a tech blog and write about mobile phones, you will not be getting good CPC.

2. Select Keywords with Good CPC

Google Adsense shows ads based on various factors. It could be content based, targeting based or interest base. If it is based on content and targeting, the CPC depends on the money invested by advertisers to compete with other advertisers. There are certain keywords for a topic that could give you better CPC due to competitive targeting. If you know those keywords and write an article about it, the article will surely see better CPC.

You can use Google Keyword Planner and SEMrush to find the high paying keywords. Do proper keyword research with these tools and find high CPC keywords with less competition. I personally use SEMrush for finding high paying keywords of my competitors and wrote articles around that keyword.

If you follow this, you will surely see improvement in overall earning of your blog.

3. Country wise targeting:

This is also one of the most important factors which directly affect the CPC. It is because the purchasing capacity of advertisers varies from country to country. If your blog’s primary traffic is from countries like United States, Canada or other European countries, you will get better CPC. Traffic from countries like India, Indonesia, Pakistan brings less CPC. I am sure, there is no need to discuss the reason behind this.

To get the better earning and better CPC, you should start writing content for global readers. Target countries like US and Canada and promote your blog to get better traffic from those countries.

4. Allow Block Ads

In Google Adsense, you will find the Allow & Block Ads section. Here, you can see what categories are contributing in your earning and what categories are getting impressions but not earning. If you see a category that is not paying good enough and it is also irrelevant to the content, you can consider blocking it.

Adsense Categories

The ads of a farming on a dating block will hardly get clicks. You can also identify those categories that usually have low CPC and block.

5. Proper ads placement and format:

Never ignore this factor when adding AdSense units to your blogs. Actually, some places are best for text/images ads but some places are only best for image only ads. So you should do some experiments on your block by chaining the ads placement and ads format. See which ad format at which place is performing best. Then use ads according to the best result obtained by the experiment.

Other tips

Double-Click For Publishers (DFP) is a nice tool that lets you serve direct ads with Adsense as a backup ad. It means, Adsense ads will be served when your ads from your advertiser will expire. If you put a direct advertiser with cost slightly high, Adsense will try to compete with your Advertiser’s ad and will automatically push the CPC of ads on that specific ad slot. Adsense do this to take over and beat your advertiser.

If you have experience of using DFP, you should try this. I personally used this but later moved to Sulvo ads who are doing the similar thing and I do not need to worry about the direct advertiser.

Final Words

keep experimenting. Not all blogs are same. So, you should try to check what works better on your blog. You should also take as many as advice from Google Adsense center.

If you properly follow this guide, you will surely see improvement in your Adsense CPC and Adsense earning. All the methods mentioned in this post are legal. The most useful way is to find highest CPC AdSense Keywords and compile posts around it. Never try illegal ways because Google will not take a time to ban your account for lifetime.

Adsense Optimization is pretty interesting for me. If we concentrate on conversion rate optimization along with SEO, I guess in less time we can improve revenue generating funda of our web marketing efforts. The best way to improve Adsense revenue is to write content on high CPC keywords, but such articles will not perform well in organic search because of high competition. We can drive traffic through low competition keywords to blog and include high paying keywords link within the article; so that visitors would click on high paying keywords link and redirect to high CPC article within a blog.

For me, it’s just studying with ad placements and experimenting with font size and colors to mix in with the content that works. I know that Google Adsense optimization is critical to earning from blogging. But it is very ugly to use 336×280 at the top of blog post because it diverts reader attention. So I always keep 728×90 or 468×60 at the upper part of the header.

CPC/CPM/PPC is the most crucial factor if your blogs main monetization factor of Google Adsense. I’m practicing very hard to increase my Adsense earnings because they are very low in my blogs. I’m working with keywords in articles, and I’m praying I can get something more from it. Anyways its an excellent article about increasing Adsense earnings. You have discussed all the key points for increasing CPC of Adsense Ads. Thanks!
