At WWDC 2017, Apple announced the next version of its mobile operating system with lots of new features and improvements. The iOS 11 will be available later this year in September 2017, but the beta version is now available to download. If you want to try that, you can install iOS 11 beta on your iPhone and experience the new features.

Apple has added lots of new features, UI improvements, performance improvements and more. In this post, I am adding best features of iOS 11 you should know.

1. Customizable Control Center

Apple has completely revamped the control center. Now it has a one-page view to show all your controls and menus at one place. Almost all the toggles support 3D touch features. You can also add or remove these toggle options depending on your usage. So, the control center is a lot better now.

2. Updated Lock Screen and Unified Notifications

Apple has also updated the lock screen. While it looks pretty much same but offers notifications on the lock screen in a different way. Your older notifications are hidden and you can swipe up to see them. When you are playing music, music control widget will also share the lock screen with notifications.

3. Personalized storage suggestions

Apple has revamped the storage section to offer personalized storage suggestions. It will help you in understanding the storage consumption and decide what to do next to free up storage.

4. Screen recording

With iOS 11, Apple has added the native support to screen recording. There is a quick toggle inside the control center. Tapping on it allows you to record your screen.

5. Automatically delete unused apps

Inside storage section in the Settings app, there is an option to allow automatically install apps that have not been used for a defined period of time. This is really useful if you have an iPhoe model with low storage.

The best thing is that it will just uninstall the app but keep your app date safe. When you will again install the app, you will start from the same place you were.

6. Siri Keyboard Input

In iOS 11, you can now type to give the command to Siri. Apple has added “Type to Siri” option. By default, it is disabled. If you turn it on, you can type your commands in place of speaking.

7. One-handed keyboard

Finally, Apple has added the one-hand keyboard for those who are using the larger phones like iPhone 7 Plus. Just long press the globe icon to reveal the orientation setting and select the one you want to.

8. Native QR code scanner

The camera app of the iOS 11 now supports the QR code scanning by default. You can just bring the QR code in front of the camera and it will scan it instantly.

9. Dark Mode

Apple has also added a Dark Mode in the iOS 11. Basically, it is the smart color invert that brings a close to perfect dark mode. This dark mode works well with all native apps but has issues with third-party apps.

If you want to try the iOS 11 beta, you can download and start using it. While browsing the new features, I found an excellent “Dark Mode“ in iOS 11. It works fine with most of the apps and you will love using your phone in this dark mode at night. In this article, I will show you how to enable the dark mode in iOS 11. Apple does not call this dark mode. It has listed this feature as “Smart Invert.” I am not sure if you know, Apple already added “Invert Colors” option that simply reverses the colors of the display. Now Apple has added another option “Smart Invert” that smartly reverses the colors and ignores media files and images. So, you will have an awesome experience of dark mode with the “Smart Invert” option. How to Enable Dark Mode (Smart Invert) in iOS 11 Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iOS device and tap on General. Enable Dark Mode Step 2: Now tap on Accessibility and then tap on Display Accommodations. 1 Step 3: Here you see Invert Colors option tap on it. Step 4: Now you see Smart Invert and Classic Invert options. The Classic Invert is the older Invert Colors option. For experiencing the dark mode, you need to toggle the switch next to Smart Invert. You have successfully enabled the dark mode on your iOS device. Now you can watch videos, browse the web and do other things. You will surely enjoy this dark mode in the night. Few apps may not support this, but most of the apps will work fine. If you want to disable this dark mode, you need to follow the same steps and turn off the switch next to Smart Invert. Final Words Smart Inverts is a nice option and allows you to try the Dark Mode on iOS 11. If you have installed the iOS 11 beta on your phone, do not forget to experience the Dark Mode. 10. Emergency SOS

Apple has also added Emergency SOS in iOS 11. It will enable users to contact emergency services automatically when they are in trouble and notify loved ones. It can be used by pressing the power button repeatedly.

11. File Manager

Apple has finally added the File Manager in iOS. It allows users to access all their files in once place. Users can also link their different cloud storages such as iCloud, Dropbox, and Google Drive and access in File manager.

12. Screenshot Markups

Now you have the option to edit the screenshot and add markups. When you capture a screenshot, it will be shown in a tiny window at the bottom left corner of your device. You can tap on it to launch the screenshot markup page.

Final Words

There are many other features that could be useful. Apple has also integrated Apple Pay in iMessage, improved photos app and lot more things to talk about. But, I just focused on best features you must know about.

Apple’s iOS 11 is still in beta until the final release that is scheduled in September. We will see more updates in coming days and I hope to see more new features.
