YouTube began in 2005 as a video sharing platform. It not just allow people to publish videos but also earn decent money based on video views. Many people want to use this platform to show their creativity or share their knowledge. If you are also one those who is thinking to become a YouTuber, you must learn video editing first. You must have a good video editing software.
I started video editing with free Windows movie maker and later bought Wondershare video editor (Now Filmora). When I bought MacBook, I started using iMovie. Later, I upgraded the software to Final Cut Pro.
In this article, I will list all free and paid video editing software. You can use depending on your requirement and skill.
Here are the lists for quick start.

- Best Video Editing Software
Now I will explain things to make it easier for you to select a good video editing software.
Video editing software for beginners
Shotcut is an easy to use tool available for Windows, Mac and Linux. You can import clips by dragging and dropping in your library and then move them to video time lining. It offers all the options including trim, join, change play back speed, layers and music, text, transition effects, voice over and more. It has sleep and intuitive interface. It also supports drag-n-drop of assets from file manager.
If you own MacBook, you can start using iMovie. It is a good software that works fine and offers lots of editing options. It comes with free pre-built templates, but you can also start a video from scratch. It also offers all video editing options you can think of using. It also offers stabilisation to fix Shaky videos. This video editing software also supports 4K videos. So, you won’t have to compromise with video quality even if you are using a free software. It has creative filters, special efforts and high quality animated titles to give your video a cinematic touch.
Filmora comes a free version (watermarked videos) but I recommend the paid ($59.99 for lifetime) one for best result. I personally use Filmora for my social media videos because of its transition effects and text effects. You can always download more from Wondershare website. One thing that I personally like about this tool is its fast processing of videos. It is really fast and end result is really great. You have lots of editing options. It is also easy to use and beginners can try this.

Movavi is also a good video editing software. It is much like shotcut but with more features. It comes with lots of filters, transitions, and titles to enhance your video. This video editing software allows timeline editing where you can merge, trim, cut, paste or perform more operations to make a video. It is a decent video editor and budget friendly.
It comes wit 7 days free trial ad costs $40. Movavi is available for both Windows and Mac.
Advanced video editing software for YouTube
1. Adobe Premiere Pro
When comes to best video editing software, Adobe Premiere Pro is the one you can go with. It is heavy and requires good configuration for using this. It is expensive because of its features. It gives you advanced tools and more control over each frame. It is available for both Windows and Mac, but I recommend Mac users to go with Final Cut Pro. This tool brings thousands of features that makes overall experience great. If you have plans to use Adobe ecosystem, go with this editing tool.
2. Final Cut Pro X
If you use MacBook, I recommend you Final Cut Pro X. It is also a paid tool and costs much. It is advanced tool with all the options you need for advanced level of video editing. You can organise your work within libraries, add advanced effects, change the look of titles and add transitions. It uses timeline where you can mix things and edit as per your need. You can also perform color correction if needed.
In terms of video export, Final Cut Pro X is also much faster than Adobe Premiere Pro. This is the reason most of the professional YouTuber use Final Cut Pro X.
I added 5 different tools here and you can go with any of these depending on your need. If you already know basic video editing and want to try the advance tool, you can try the advanced tools. Otherwise, you can select any of the basic tools. I added Filmora as I personally use it along with Final cut Pro, but for short videos. The reason for using Filmora is the availability of more text effects and transitions effects. If you do not want to spend big amount, Filmora is always the one I recommend.
