Has iOS 9 increased data consumption? Wi-Fi assist may be a reason

Apple rolled out iOS 9 few days back. Many users have reported the increasing data bills after upgrading to iOS 9. If you are also one of those users, you must know about ‘Wi-Fi Assist’. This is the root cause of this issue in iOS 9. But it is very useful and you must know how to use it to maximize your web experience on iOS9.

Wi-Fi Assist is a new feature added by Apple in iOS 9. It automatically switches to data if your Wi-Fi is slow. In this way, it automatically use data or wi-fi to give you better speed. But, it increases the data consumption. By default this feature is enabled. This is the reason why, most of the users reported the increase in data consumption. Turning this feature off will help in reducing data.

I personally like this feature and recommend users not to turn this feature off. This feature was added to give you better internet experience on your iOS device.
How to turn off Wi-Fi Assist?
To turn Wi-Fi Assist off, follow the below steps:
Step 1: Open ‘Settings’ and navigate to ‘Mobile data’.
Step 2: Scroll down until you see option for ‘Wi-Fi Assist’
Step 3: Turn it off.
How to reduce data consumption with WI-FI Assist on?
You can control what apps can use your mobile data. In this way, you can reduce the data consumption. Most of the times, your Wi-Fi connection will be in use. Your mobile data will only be used when your phone will get low Wi-Fi connectivity. You can do it in the same ‘Mobile data’ page. Just above the Wi-Fi assist option, you can see what app can use your mobile data. Disable for the app which you do not want to use.
