How to activate Skype’s Noise Cancellation feature during calls

Popular video calling platform Skype recently rolled out Noise Cancellation feature. This feature uses AI to block background noise and offer you a good calling experience. Microsoft claims that it uses trained deep neural networks to remove noise without affecting your voice. The company has used a approximately 760 hours of clean speech data and 180 hours of noise data for training their AI model. If you actively use Skype for audio and video calls, you can enable Skype’s Noise Cancellation feature. In this article, I will explain how to enable Noise Cancellation feature in Skype.

Open Skype and login into your account. Now Click on your Profile photo at the top left corner and then select Settings.

In Settings, select the ‘Audio & Video’ option and then scroll down to the ‘Audio’ tab. Here, you see the ‘Noise Cancellation’ option. Select from Auto, Low, or High depending on your need.

Selecting Low option will filter less noise and High filters out more. If you select Auro, it will automatically detect the background noise level and select Low or High based on the noise.

Once you have selected an option, close the Settings Window and try making a call to see how well this noise cancellation feature works.

Noise cancellation feature is not available in web-based desktop client. It is also not available for Android and iOS yet. If you use Skype on desktop, you can enable it to use on your calls. Now you know how to enable the Noise Cancellation in your Skype calls. If you are in a place where background noise interrupts your calling experience, enable it.
