How to Blur Your Background on a FaceTime Call


With iOS 15, Apple introduced portrait mode in FaceTime. If you use Portrait mode during FaceTime video calls, it blurs the background and highlights your face. Basically, portrait mode during video calls helps in avoiding distractions. If you regularly use FaceTime and want to learn how to use Portrait mode in FaceTime video calls, keep reading. In this article, I will explain how you can use Portrait mode to blur background during FaceTime video calls.

Enable Portrait mode before making any FaceTime Call

If you want to enable portrait mode before making any FaceTime calls, follow these steps.

Open the FaceTime app on your iPhone and then open Control Center. You will see the Video Effects option at the top left. Tap on it. Now tap on the portrait icon at the center to enable the Portrait Mode.

Blur Your Background on a FaceTime Call

It will enable Portrait mode for FaceTime. Now you can make a FaceTime call and you will the blurred background from your side of view.

Enable Portrait Mode During a FaceTime Call

If you didn’t enable the Portrait mode before making the FaceTime call, you can enable it during the call.

While on a FaceTIme call, tap your camera view thumbnail. it will make your view a bit larger. In that, tap the Portrait icon on the top left. It will enable the background blur.

Now you can continue your call with blurred background. If you want to unblur your background or disable the portrait mode, follow the same steps and tap the Portrait icon to turn off Portrait mode.
