How to Log Out of Gmail App on Android

Gmail is the default Email app on Android devices. If you have been looking for a way to sign out of your Gmail account on Android, I am sure you didn’t get any Signout or log out option in the app. The Gmail app for Android does not offer an option to log out. But there is still a way to log out of Gmail on Android. You need to remove your Google Account from your phone or tablet.

Log Out of Gmail App on Android
As I said, there is no way to just log out of Gmail on Android, you need to remove Google account from your phone. Here are the steps to remove a Google account from an Android phone or tablet. This will just remove the account from your Phone. You can still access the account from any other phone or computer. But there is also a way to just stop using Gmail while keep using the same Google account on your phone. I have also added how to do this.

Step 1: On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app Gmail.
Step 2: In the top right, tap your profile picture.
Step 3: Tap Manage accounts on this device.
Step 4: Choose your account.

Step 5: At the bottom, tap Remove account.
Method 2: An alternate way to log out of Gmail app on Android
If you do not want to remove your Google account from your phone, but just want to stop using the Gmail, you can do something. You can stop emails sync and clear Gmail app data. So, it won’t load any email from your Gmail account to the Gmail app.
Steps to stop Gmail data synchronization
Here are the steps to stop Gmail data synchronization
Step 1: On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app Gmail.
Step 2: In the top right, tap your profile picture.
Step 3: Tap Manage accounts on this device.
Step 4: Choose your account.
Step 5: Click on Account sync.

Step 6: Toggle the switch in front of Gmail to stop sync.
Steps to clear App data
Now when you have to stop Gmail sync, you need to clear app data to remove previously loaded emails from the app.
Step 1: Open your phone’s Settings app.
Step 2: Tap Apps & notifications.
Step 3: Tap See all apps. Here scroll to find Gmail and tap on it

Step 4: Now tap on Storage.
Step 4: Tap Clear storage or Clear cache. If you don’t see “Clear storage,” tap Clear data.

After clearing Gmail data, it will remove all existing emails fetched by Gmail app in past. As you have turned off the Sync, no more emails will be fetched. So, you can keep using the same Google account in other apps but Gmail app won’t fetch any more email. So, it will work like you have logged out of your Gmail account on the app.
