Microsoft released Cortana for Windows Phone but later it launched Cortana for Android and iOS as well. Set Cortana As Default Assistant On Android

First of all, Download Cortana from Google Play Store. The app is available for free.

Before you start using Cortana, you will be asked to sign n using Microsoft account. If you do not have one, you need to create one. You can also use your Skype account to log in.

After you have logged in successfully, it asks for few permissions including location, SMS, and others. After this, it asks for “Add Cortana to my lock screen.“ If you want to use Cortana direct from the lock screen, you can enable this.

When you are done with basic Cortana setup, now you need to set Cortana as default assistant.

Now the next step is different for different devices. If your phone is running on Android 5.x or older, you have Google Now as default assistant. So long press the home button and it asks you to select the app to complete action using. Here, select Cortana and tap on Always.

If your phone is running Android 6.0 or higher, you have Google Assistant. So, you need to follow these steps. Open Settings app and go to Apps section. Here tap on cog icon at the top-right corner of the app list.

Here, your options will differ depending on your phone’s manufacturer. Look for something like “Default Apps”, “Configure Apps”, “Assist & voice input,” or “Default App Settings”. Here change the “Assist App” to Cortana.
