How to Setup Google Analytics in Less Than 10 Minutes

Every webmaster want to get exact report of traffic on website. If we talk about the best free traffic stats tools, no tool can compete with Google Analytics. Google Analytics is a free Google’s service which allows web masters to keep track of website visitors, their activities, search engine traffic, and search queries that drives traffic on website. It doesn’t mean if you have very few visitors of very large amount of traffic, you should always try to have exact idea. This helps you in your future marketing strategy. If you are using Blogger, you already have a stats section there. But that does not show right traffic information. It shows page views and also count bots as visitors. So, you should use Google Analytics for this.
Setting up Google Analytics account is easy. I am writing this simplified guide which will help you in creating analytics account and adding tracking code in your website.
Google Analytics Setup
First go to the http://www.google.com/analytics/ and login with your Google account. If you do not want to use your personal account, you can create one. Once you sign up for Analytics, it will instantly take you to account creation page. Here, you can add website details.
If you already have Analytics account and want to add a new website, click on Admin tab at the top. In Property section, click on the dropdown and you will see the option to “Create New Property”
Then you will see a form to fill website details. After adding your website, you will get a tracking code. You will have to put this code in your website.
You have successful added your website to Google Analytics. Next step is to add the tracking code in your website.
Tracking code is a JS code which you can simply past in the footer or header section of your website. If you are not sure how to add it, you can read below.
Adding Google Analytics in Blogger blog
In Blogger, you can simply add a new HTML/JavaScript gadget. Login in your Blogger account, select blog and then go to Layput section. Here in design lauout, select “add a Gadget” and add a new HTML/JavaScript gadget. Put your tracking code there. You can also drag this Blogger gadget to any part of the website. As this is simple tracking code, it will not affect your website’s design.
Adding Google Analytics in WordPress blog
Adding Google Analytics in WordPress is also simple. There are many ways to add Google Aalytics in WordPress. Many themes come with built in option to add Google Analytics code. If you theme have this option, you can simply put your Google analytics code there.
If your theme does not have Google Analytics option, you can add a text widget in side bar or Footer and paste your Analytics code there.
You can also edit the theme of your WordPress blog and add this code manually in header.php or footer.php. Follow this step only if you know how to edit php files. Otherwise you may do something wrong.
